This summer I was lucky to be a part of the virtual Secondary Student Training Program (SSTP) at the University of Iowa! I worked with the GeoSocial lab on a few different projects. First, I assisted with background research and editing on a workshop paper examining how trends in COVID-19 infections and human mobility differed across the United States. This project allowed me to get a good grounding in academic research processes, from reading studies to creating citations. Then, I worked with Kaitlyn Hom on a project examining trends in migration across the Bay Area from 1990 to 2010. This project (poster below) helped me learn a lot about data analysis, plotting, and academic writing. I’m very excited to use the skills that I developed in the future, and am grateful for the opportunities the University of Iowa and the Geo-Social lab gave me.
