During the summer of 2021, I interned in the Geospatial Science and Human Security Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Working as an intern in the US Department of Energy's SULI program has allowed me to perform research related to my interests, learn about the different research areas at Oak Ridge Laboratory, and observe what it is like to work for a national laboratory. My project is an analysis of hospital closures in Tennessee. I spent time learning the R programming language and used what I learned to create different visualizations related to hospital closures, socio-economic factors and travel time. I had a great experience in the SULI program and am grateful to have had the opportunity to perform research and understand how geospatial analysis can help solve problems of the present and future.
